History of Fried Ravioli
Fried ravioli has a surprisingly serendipitous origin story. Legend has it that this delectable dish was born out of a happy accident in the kitchen of a St. Louis restaurant back in the 1940s. As the story goes, a ravioli order was accidentally dropped into the fryer by a clumsy chef. Rather than toss the “ruined” pasta pockets, the chef decided to serve them anyway, topping the crispy ravioli with a dusting of Parmesan cheese. To everyone’s surprise and delight, the fried ravioli turned out to be an instant hit.
And the rest, as they say, is history. From their humble beginnings as a chef’s blunder, fried ravioli or T-ravs (as fried ravioli is affectionatly known in St. Louis) has gone on to become a beloved appetizer across America.
